VOTE FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

I am running for Pine Island School Board because I believe we can do better for our children and the city of Pine Island. We need to have full transparency in education, strive for academic excellence in our schools, and partner as a community to best educate our youth. The school board and administration should work together to be fully transparent to the community and the students. In order for our students to succeed, our school communities need to be authentically engaged and strive for individual student success. To best make an impact in our schools, we need effective community partnering that connects educators to resources.

Now a little about me and my background as an educator. I hold a Master’s in Education from Grand Valley State University in Michigan and a Bachelors of Arts degree from St. Olaf College in Sociology/Anthropology and Health & Wellness. I have worked at universities in California, Hawaii, and Minnesota. I retired from the University of Minnesota in 2018, after serving as the academic advisor for the Medical Lab Science program and the Occupational Therapy program. My secondary education experience includes serving as the strength coach for Stewartville High School. Additionally, I taught high school math and physical education with the Marimed Foundation in Hawaii, delivering ocean and land-based learning experiences to severely at-risk adolescents. I have also taught community education classes for Pine Island. Most recently I taught an introduction to acting class and a class in comedy improvisation to elementary and middle school students.

My family and I have lived in Pine Island since 2013. I have a long history as an entrepreneur and my wife, Tricia, and I own and operate multiple businesses in Pine Island (Olde Pine Theatre, Willow’s Keep Farm, and FRIGHT at the FARM). I am an active member of Pine Island People for the Arts (PAPA) and I have directed multiple stage productions at the Olde Pine Theatre. I have four amazing children ages 14 to 19. Two of my children have attended Pine Island schools and two of my children attended Montessori school in Rochester. Education and lifelong learning have always been an important part of my life and I instill these beliefs in my children. I am a lifelong athlete competing in wrestling, collegiate ice hockey, natural bodybuilding, power lifting, snowboarding, surfing, outrigger canoe racing, water ski jumping, barefoot water skiing, slalom water skiing, and national water ski shows. I have a love for the performing arts and have performed live on stage, in television shows, on the big screen, as a water ski clown and a commercial actor. I have multiple experience in grant writing working with the NFL Pro-Bowl, Olde Pine Theater, and the city of Pine Island.

My goal is to bring my experiences, skills, and community relationships to develop a more collaborative approach that leverages the talents, passion, and expertise of everyone in our school communities. We should “Aspire to Inspire” the next generation and future leaders. I will strive to support and address each concern and proposed changes outlined on our “Strong 4 Pine Island Panthers” website. If you would like to see a more transparent, academically focused, and community engaged form of education in Pine Island, I ask that you vote for me on November 8, 2022.
